HFP Executive Director Barbara Frei has been with the agency since 2008.
The South Dakota native has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and communications management and has lived in Hastings since 1974.
As director, Frei generally oversees operations at HFP, including staffing, grant applications and compliance and serves as a liaison with the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association.
“I love working at Hastings Family Planning because we have an amazing staff assembled to serve a growing need in our communities,” Frei said. “Routine reproductive health care, including limited primary care, is vital to everyone, and our support from Title X and individuals in our service area makes it possible for us to offer high quality care at an affordable rate.”
Frei enjoys spending time with her three grown children and three grandchildren.
Clinic Manager Celest Horst has worked at Hastings Family Planning since 1999 and serves as the clinic’s nurse.
She consults with patients and handles many of the clinic’s medical operations.
The Edgar native graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1991 and Southeast Community College in Beatrice in 1997. She is a licensed practical nurse.
“I love working with patients. I love empowering young women,” she said. “I love talking to clients and hearing their stories. I love working with the local clinicians. I have been able to witness and experience some wonderful events, and I have been on the other side, helping women who have been diagnosed with cancer or have an unwanted pregnancy. I find my work to be frustrating at times, but also very rewarding.”
Horst and her husband, Tim, have one grown daughter. The couple lives in Edgar with their two Chesapeake Bay retrievers.
Community Educator Betsy Herrman began working at HFP in August 2012.
As the clinic’s educator, she provides free educational programming to schools, organizations and individuals across south central Nebraska on abstinence, refusal skills, birth control options, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy, puberty, communication, self-esteem and body image. She also helps patients during clinic hours and handles public relations for the agency.
The Iowa native has an English degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Prior to her work at HFP, Herrman spent five years as a journalist in Kearney and Hastings.
“My goal is to ensure people have all the information they need about sexual health and well-being to make the best choices they can,” she said.
Herrman lives in Hastings with her husband, Tony.
Dr. Todd Pankratz has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Hastings since 1998.
He practices at Obstetrics and Gynecologists, P.C., and serves as medical director of Hastings Family Planning.
He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Dr. Pankratz was born in Henderson, Neb., and received his bachelor’s degree from Hastings College in 1988. After receiving his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha in 1992, he served his residency training at Truman Medical Center/St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Following completion of his residency training in 1996, Dr. Pankratz was in private practice in Iowa City, Iowa, until returning to Hastings.
Dr. Tyler Adam began his obstetric and gynecologic practice in Hastings in 2011 at Obstetrics and Gynecologists, P.C.
Dr. Adam was born in Hastings and earned a B.S. degree from Wake Forest University in North Carolina in 2000. After receiving his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha in 2007, he served his OB/GYN residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Following completion of his residency training in 2011, he returned to Hastings.
Barbara Peckham-Devine practices as a certified nurse midwife at Obstetrics and Gynecologists, P.C., in Hastings, as well as at Hastings Family Planning.
Peckham-Devine is originally from Gothenburg, Neb., and studied at the Parkland School of Nurse Midwifery, graduating in 1991 as a CNM.
She is a registered nurse who has also received additional medical education in prenatal care, birthing techniques and well-women gynecologic care.
