Our History

In 1972, the wives of several Hastings doctors, the YWCA of Adams County Board of Directors and other concerned women in the community joined together to support a family planning agency in Hastings.

HFP was founded with the YWCA serving as the sponsoring agency and Georgie Evans, R.N., as the first director. The agency operated from an unused wing in the basement of Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital with donated exam tables and other supplies.

In 1975, Hastings Family Planning became incorporated as a non-profit program.

In 1977, Dr. George Adam had begun his own OB/GYN practice in Hastings and volunteered to be HFP’s medical director. Before that time, doctors advised the clinic, but none wanted to be directly associated with Hastings Family Planning.
